Calm Seas Through Whale Cut; Dinner at Green Turtle Cay; Harry Wins Again

Passing through cuts in the shallow reefs as is necessary in sailing from the region of Water Cay to cays further north, one needs to take care to ensure this be done when the current (tide) is moving in the same direction as the wind. Whale Cay Cut  has an additional challenge in that we need to make the passing at high tide (for depth) and when the ocean swells aren’t raging. Upon awaking this morning at 6:30 am, Sarah realized that conditions were great to make a go of the cut, so she woke Harry up and soon after 7:00 am, we hauled anchor and headed to Whale Cut, passing through the cut without any breaking seas or swells. We had hoped to be the ones today to report on conditions at the cut today on the 8:15 am Cruiser’s Net, but the catamaran that passed just ahead of us beat us to it.

We then headed to No Name Cay as the winds picked up out of the southeast and we dinghied to the southeastern tip of Green Turtle Cay to a gorgeous beach where the water shallowed - much like Treasure Cay - except there wasn't any development or people around, just tons and tons of sand dollars.
Letting any troubles float away

Green Turtle Cay

After a few hours at the beach seeking sea shells, we dinghied to the northeast side of No Name Cay to snorkel the reef just off shore.  It had some nice coral formations but the fish weren’t abundant.  Finally, after a short sail round to the Government Docks off Green Turtle Cay Settlement, we chose to try dinner at Green Turtle Cay Marina and were not disappointed. After starting with Tipsy Turtles, Sarah had grilled grouper and Harry had the Mahi.

Cheers

We capped the evening off with Harry winning two out of three games of backgammon in a quaint sitting room off the bar.  The bar at the marina was a cozy spot covered in dollar bills.

  1. Hello from France this time!! This area sounds amazing as all the others! I loooove the picture of Sarah floating peacefully in the water and the one with the 2 of you! I have a Giant Backgammon game here in Brittany so we will need to try it out whenever you fancy a visit! Cheers and hugs from across the Atlantique. Tiphaine
